Kyrgyzstan today is an agrarian country, one of the poorest in the world. Most of the population lives in mountainous areas that are difficult to access. Large families (8-10 children each) with a traditional way of life are engaged in subsistence farming. Often they do not have cash, trade takes place by barter.

At the same time, spirituality is highly valued, religious people and clergy are highly respected here. Islam, brought to the region in the 8th century, is considered traditional here.

The state language of the republic is Kyrgyz, which is spoken by more than 2/3 of the population. Less than 50% of the population speaks Russian; after the collapse of the USSR, it is gradually falling into disuse, although it retains its positions in large cities and government agencies. The new, actively arriving generation communicates more and more only in their native language. Gadgets and Internet access are very limited in the region, and reading books still plays an important role in education.

Our project is aimed at enlightening the Kyrgyz nation, introducing it to the treasures of the Vedic culture. This is the direct desire of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada:

In our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, all our activities are concentrated upon distributing Kṛṣṇa literature. This is very important.

Letter to Jananivasa,
March 5, 1971
«Our book distribution program is most important work. Anyone reading our KRSNA book, "Teaching of Lord Chaitanya", "Nectar Of Devotion", and "Bhagavad-gita As It Is", is sure to become a Krishna Conscious person. Therefore somehow or other we must push on this literature distribution program, either through schools, colleges, libraries, life membership program or ordinary sales».
«There is no doubt about it, to distribute books is our most important activity... Fight with maya means to drop thousand and millions of books into the lap of the conditioned souls. Just like during war time the Bombs are raining from the sky like anything».
Letter to Ramesvara,
Aug. 3, 1973
«Anyone, however, who tries sincerely to present Bhagavad-gita as it is will advance in devotional activities and reach the pure devotional state of life. As a result of such pure devotion, he is sure to go back home, back to Godhead».

We plan to buy as much of the «Bhagavad-Gita As It Is» edition as possible from the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust in order to distribute this scripture in all cities and villages of Kyrgyzstan among people who cannot afford to buy it at full price, and also transfer it to libraries, universities and other state institutions of Kyrgyzstan, where the intellectuals of this wonderful country are concentrated.

We humbly request anyone and everyone who considers himself a follower of Srila Prabhupada and a bearer of the Vaishnava tradition to do his best to promote Krishna consciousness, the only source of happiness for conditioned souls in the world of matter.

The translation of the «Bhagavad-gita» with Srila Prabhupada's commentary into the Kyrgyz language was carried out by a family of professors from the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek. The head of the family is professor, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Avyt Asanov (Brahmin Adi Gaura das). His wife is Lurena Asanova (Lakshmi Gaurangi devi dasi), a philologist, teacher of the Kyrgyz and Russian languages. The manuscript was edited by their son Ruhidin Asanov (Ramanuja Priya das) — associate professor, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences. Like his parents, he is fluent in Russian, Kyrgyz and English. All of them are disciples of H.H. Gopal Krishna Goswami.

The translation took about six years. The manuscript has already been edited and is in the BBT publishing house. The publication will be layout, printing and shipment to Kyrgyzstan.

Professors, philologists, philosophers, writers and other representatives of the Kyrgyz intelligentsia have already given their high appraisal of the translation. «Reading the song of God in a pure native language is a pleasure», many reviews say.
Titiksha Krishna das
There are still not so many distributors of Srila Prabhupada's message in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan. One of them is Timur Kazatov (Titiksha Krishna das). For a long time he lived among the Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Kazakhs, he knows their language and mentality. For the third year in a row, he drives his car around the cities and villages of these Asian republics and distributes BBT literature there in their national languages.

Until recently, these were small-format publications that have remained in the storerooms of the publishing house since Soviet times. Their circulation is already coming to an end, and a decision has been made to translate large books. The first decision was made to publish «Bhagavad-gita As It Is». And it so happened that the first translation into Kyrgyz was prepared for publication.

We offer everyone who is not indifferent to the mission of Lord Chaitanya and His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada to assist in the publication and distribution of «Bhagavad-gita As It Is» in the Kyrgyz language.
